Why are cons so upset about the First Lady wanting us all to be healthier?
The First Lady's incessant critics insist intrusive nutrition activism goes way too far and that's why they're angry. I mean, just look at this goody-goody health rhetoric: "We're just too darned fat." And "Overweight and obesity are among the most pressing new health challenges we face today." And "The fight against obesity begins at home." And "America needs to get healthier one small step at a time. Each small step does make a difference, whether it's taking the stairs instead of an elevator or snacking on fruits and vegetables." And "Americans need to understand that overweight and obesity are literally killing us." Can't you just hear conservatives complaining about how meddling and annoying the First Lady is? Right, except all those above quotes came from Tommy Thompson while serving as President Bush's Secretary of Health and Human Services. In fact, it was Thompson who once urged every American to lose ten pounds as a patriotic gesture, and suggested Congress pass tax credits for people who thinned down. (Talk about a big government approach!) Indeed, the previous Republican administration, like the current one, loudly rang the alarm about the nation's obesity epidemic, while beseeching kids to eat healthier and to exercise more. So why weren't the cons and the right-wing noise machine angry then?

- Maybe because she has one of the fattest a$$e$ on the planet? Have you ever heard the term "Lead by Example"? While the Obamas are dining on chicken wings, they are telling everybody else that they are not eating healthy food. It is the hypocrisy that makes me mad about any First Lady trying to tell anyone what they should be doing.
- It's my choice to chose what I eat and what my kids can eat NO ONE ELSES Taking away MY choice, takes away MY Freedom
- Because I'm an adult who's capable of taking care of myself. I don't need, nor do I want, the firsl lady's "advice."
- because their health plan for America was, die quickly. well she really is messing that up. did you know the freedom to eat junk food was never taken away? i'm thinking conservatives needed to be taught this because they don't seem to not now it.
- Wanting is one thing... Abusing her position to thrust guidelines onto us is another. I'd like to see Michelle's azz quit growing but I can't just tie a stick to her head and hang a Twinkie off it to get her to run all day, now can I?
- Nobody has the right to tell me how to eat
- I really don't give a damn. First lady causes are pretty damn insignificant for the most part. I'm sure she means well and what is the harm.
- she's a lard @ss America hating mooslim and she can keep her opinion to herself
- She tells people what NOT to do instead of using a positive message
- It's just slightly annoying when someone pulling a large caboose is telling they rest of us what to eat.
- I don't want Mrs Romney to be the First Lady!! All of her adult sons look malnourished. She obviously made poor food choices for them. I want Michelle Obama to continue to decide what our nation's children should eat.
- They are nothing but haters.
- Instead of chocolates, would you prefer a can of spinach from Mexico on Valentine's Day? Morley's Chocolate is made right here in Michigan. Imma support Michigan business.
- There is nothing wrong with promoting it. It is a good thing to talk to America about getting healthier. But when you start forcing the issue by taking over school lunch menus etc. that is where liberals always cross the line. You complain about Christians forcing their views on others and then you turn around and do the same. (BTW kids are just bringing their own junk food to school) I wish both sides would stop and let people decide for themselves. It's called freedom. And I wish hypocritical people like yourself would just shut the hell up.
- The get healthy strategy goes beyond encouraging lifestyle changes, and instead forced additional federal intrusions starting with schools and leading all the way to your shopping cart. In typical liberal fashion, you cannot expect an individual live with the consequences of their actions, therefore you try and control such. Instead, the rating of health insurance should be supported. Just a bad drivers find that they pay more for car insurance, those who have unhealthy lifestyles should face the same with health insurance. Lifestyle changes come on faster when there is motivation. There is no more serious motivation than someone going after your wallet.
- Only hardcore partisan nuts would criticize a first lady. Their campaigns are meant to be something non-controversial, like Laura Bush's literacy campaign. Someone who would criticize a campaign for kids health is just sad. It's not like she's banning cheeseburgers. It's called "Let's Move" meaning get some exercise.
- Because her last name is Obama. That's it.
- Someone who is gulping down a Big Mac and a large order of fries shouldn't be telling anyone they are fat. Moochelle could stand to lose 30 pounds or so.
