Medical and Nutrition field against the inhumane treatment of animals? I'm researching the inhumane treatment of animals and I would like to know if anyone knows where I could possibly find views from the medical and nutrition field, like articles, quotes etc., from those who have R.D.s and Ph.D.s etc. Hopefully along the lines of saying, going vegetarian will help save so-and-so amount of animal lives each year...etc. Please help!!!
Is ocular nutrition safe for children 12 - 14? I want to ditch my glasses but I can't stand contacts. Ocular Nutrition is supposed to help, but I don't want to take vitamin pills without quotes. Help!
Are gum labels lying to me about nutrition facts? Well the gum says that each piece is about 5 calories per stick yet the piece of gum contains 2g of carbs which should equal 8 calories. The little quote at the bottom says they've reduced the calories on a piece of gum from 8 to 5 calories ,though. Only reason I'm concerned is that this could add up considering I chew quite a few pieces of gum a day basically all day.
"When push comes to shove nutrition takes a back seat to money"? Can someone please tell me what this quote means to you because im very confused i just need some opinions and ideas please:) ps. it is in an article called "Noontime Nutrition"

Help me analyze some quotes? Ok so for school we had to pick quotes from our independent reading and interpret them. I have most of them done but still need a help on a few. My book is called Dream Journal. Its about this teenage girl who's mom is dying of cancer. Here are the quotes and what I have written so far: “You’re getting better, aren’t you? I knew you were this morning and now I really know it. You’re getting better, you’ll always be here” (page 192)In this quote I think that Livy is simply trying to trick herself into thinking that her mom will live forever when in all actuality during this part of the book it had become apparent that she would die at any moment now. Livy, facing denial, shows that she is still in the first stage of grief. In the back of her mind she might know that her mom is close to dying but she is trying to trick herself out of knowing it. All together there are five stages of grief with acceptance being the final stage. I think that by the end of the book, as hard as it is, Livy would have reached acceptance or at least come close to it. “Mom lies there all the time, growing smaller” (page 2)This quote can be seen as both figurative and literal. As Livy’s mom is becoming more and more sick she is quite literally becoming smaller. The cancer is “eating” away at her body and the lack of proper nutrition, is causing her to wither away. She rapidly looses weight and becomes more and more frail with each passing day. Figuratively, her mom is losing her place in the house. She is longer the strong authority figure that she once was. Her psyche is also growing smaller. Since she was once an independent and strong woman, not being able to help herself is a very hard reality to accept. She does not like having to be waited on hand and foot. This makes her morale weaker because she knows that she is not the person that she once was nor will she ever be again. "I couldn't imagine what type of birthday present he was going to find for me at the grocery store. A pair of socks? A t-shirt?I still can't imagine but whatever it is I'll find out soon. He's up stairs wrapping it right now-his first time wrapping a present for me, I bet. He's already spilled out a kitchen drawer searching for tape. I'm thinking: wrinkled paper, snarled ribbon, no card at all. but I guess I should have a little faith in him. Earlier, when he help up my birthday cake and the candles illuminated his face, he reminded me of a broken angel." So i dont have anything for his quote yet....I'm not sure if there are jsut certain parts of it that I should use or what. I'm not really sure that I would write about..it just seemed workable.... let me know if you have any ideas!! Thanks so much!! :)
Career choices for someone who loves words, grammar, literature, quotes, etc? I'm 16 and currently in high school, so this is what I'd be pursuing in college (where I plan to get either a master's degree or PhD). My teachers tell me I write well also, but despite being a very fast typer writing papers takes me a really long time. I also read slow, but I love to analyze literature and am obsessed with picking out profound/moving quotes from books. If you can't tell already, I'm very type A (if that changes your recommendation at all). My other interests include blogging, interior design, fashion, the 1920s, big cities, Audrey Hepburn, and nutrition (among others). Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks so much!
We all live busy lives, if the Doctor recommends more exercise, what is the reason you give him that you give? I'm a student, and I am just looking for feedback for my Nutrition class. I live a busy life myself, but I find time to exercise everyday, so I'm looking for reasons/excuses that people are too busy to exercise. Names will not be used, but direct quotes maybe used. Thank you. - Victoria
What are examples of what would be on a written test for boxing seconds in Nevada? Apparently the Nevada boxing commission just came up with some new rules. Can anyone tell me examples of what this might be? "In addition, starting in January, seconds will now have to pass a written test (like a drivers license test) to demonstrate their knowledge nutrition, weight-loss, concussions and hydration before they are licensed or relicensed." (quoted from fightnews.com)
Dog Food & Dog Nutrition? Quote from http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/anutmed.htm#poop: "Scientists theorize that mineral deficiency subjects us, and our animals, to more diseases, aging, sickness and destruction of our physical well-being than any other factor in personal health. A groundswell of nutrition conscious veterinarians are beginning to recommend to their clients that they supplement their animals diet with a daily dose of flaxseed oil, coconut oil and other nutrients for optimum health and vitality. The food your animal eats should provide all of the nutritional components which are necessary for all organs and systems of a healthy body to perform in harmonious unison." Does anyone know if there is a Dog Food out there which will provide all the necessary nutrients my pup needs? Or will I have to buy supplements, in addition to, the food I am currently buying. Right now, she eats "Pedigree; Adult Complete Nutrition". Yes, it SAYS COMPLETE, but is it? LOL Ok, I should have been a little more specific. My "pup" is a little over a year old. She's 50% pitt, 25% shepherd and 25% lab. I call her a "pup" cuz she acts like one. LOL. She's a big girl, though. Anywho... I originally asked this question cuz my "pup" eats her "poo". We also have another dog, 100% pitt. She is 11 yrs old. My other dog does not and never has (that I am aware of). In doing some research, MOST sites stated that she eats her "poo" because she is lacking some important nutrients in her diet.
My nutrition teacher is failing me because she's brainwashed to think that genetically modified food is good?! I presented my project to class the other day, which I did extensive research on genetically modified food. For some quick facts, check out www.cqs.com/50harm.htm ...growth hormones in our meats (most Americans are fat...),antibiotics in our milk,pesticides/herbicides being gene spliced into our crops so we can't even wash them off anymore because they're actually GROWN INTO them, etc. After I finished presenting, someone asked a question and while I was answering the teacher rudely interrupted me, answering it falsely. I included lab tests, scientists quotes, even some science into my paper, she claims I don't have science. I told the class that the FDA doesn't require labeling for GMO's, because then no one would want to buy them. Which is what happened in the UK.Monsanto, one of the biggest GMO companies out there, donates a large portion of money to the FDA. Put two and two together. I don't want to fail for exposing the truth. What can I do to prove her wrong? Who should I talk to?
Can anyone give me some jokes, funny quotes, anything funny about this topic? The topic is Nutrition. Seriously. I have to find something entertaining for Health, so give me the best stuff about nutrition that is funny. Can you also rate these: http://www.basicjokes.com/djoke.php?id=5139 http://www.basicjokes.com/djoke.php?id=993 Thanks. I found these around the internet and I want to make sure they're funny. People you could do something about unhealthy foods, coffee, soda, etc. and you could also do a joke on someone who doesn't exercise. lol 911 although I'm not sure if a yo mama joke is appropriate for school.
what is the the best animal donating program? To:humanesociety@hsus.org Subject:looking for a little help I wrote to you through E-mail about one week ago. I still have not received any return messages from your organization. In case it got lost ill’ just remind you what it was in refferenc to. I am The Proud parent of a german shepherd named Lexi, two 10 year old cats. One which is a rescue from heart and soul. He was starved and neglected. As a result of his life time of poor nutrition he has health problems. When we first brought hin home he was afraid of us and would gorge himself with food until he threw up. Also his teeth are not in the bset condition.I guess you could say he was emotionally fragile when he came home with us. Now he is the the most loving animal and I cant imagine life with out him. Some times he still eats all his food at once because he thinks he wont get fed again. As a result he throughs up and screams in pain from his stomach and then gets diareah. We do the best we can to keep him comfortable. And by the way his name is maxx. As for my other cat ive’ had him since birth his name is moses. He is a sweet boy and weighs 23lbs’. Its not that he is fat, he is what the vet call abnormally large. Since he is getting older he has developed joint pain. At first I though he was just getting crabby with old age. I only found out after he hurt himself ,(tore up his chest muscles) and had several X-Rays that he also was suffering from joint pain, muscle aches. When the vet put moses on Dexamethasone that’s when his mood was relaxed completely and nothing seemed to cause him pain. So even though his chest is healed he still gets minor aches and pains . That’s when the vet puts him back on the Dexamethasone and he is fine. As for my girl lexi (my German shepherd) she has a rare disorder. She has what has been diagnosed as exercise induced epilepsy. I never herd of it and the vet never has seen anything like it. She was going through hell until we found out what was wrong with her. Once we put on Phenobarbital she was like a new dog. She still has petite mal break throughs now and then, but very rarely. Any way my problem is I will be moving to texas in the next 4 to 5 months. I just cant afford to live in N.Y. anymore, Especialy being a single parent of a 14 year old child. We are literally being forced to leave. There are more jobs for what I do down there. I will not leave my animals here. I know no one would love them or care for them the way I do. Also they have special needs, they need me and my daughter. I have been donating to your organization for many years until recently due to my pets overwhelming medical bills. They are in the thousands. So I could no longer donate. I wanted to know if there is something you can do to help me pay to relocate my pets. The lowest cost I got was from a nice company called Pet movers . They quoted me a price of $2150.00. That also includes our little ferret Chester which they threw in for free as a multi pet discount. If you would like to call our vet re there medical HX feel free, Ask for Dr Alison Rhien 631-271-8383 . Her place of health is known as Dix Hills Animal Hospital in Dix Hills NY. I know im asking a lot here but I need help with my pets. If you cant help me please direct me to some one who can. Thank you for your time , Barbara Oest 631 462 4998 dear friend ,thank you so much for your input. but my main concern is finding donatoins to help with this move. I have donated to the HSUS for many years and the ASCPA. only when my girl lexi ( my dog) started having a craxy amount of tests and costs me thousands of dollars i could not donate any more. I was just trying to find some one (organization) to help me afford the moving of the animals. i cant leave them behind . they depend on me for all there special medical needs that no one else would do for them. and i love them WITH ALL MY HEART. so if you can figure out any ideas please let me know . the apprasel for them is currently $2150.00. they pick up and deliver door to door never leaving there side on the plane. Again thank you for answering. texasboundbrat@yahoo.com

How do I reference the following quote by Edison in APA? I cannot find where and when Edison said: “The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.”~ Thomas Edison Do I reference this in APA format and where did he say this, I cannot find the info I need to reference this correctly and do not want to commit plagiarism? Thanks in advance
Why overpay for organic food after this? Quote, "Organic food has no significant difference from ordinary food, according to a major study by the researchers of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition." It's all perception ! An estimated $48 billion industry in 2007 is all based on perception ! And we might as well safely assume we can drink our tap water too.
on which content i should make a website.? on which content i should make a website so that more and more people come ,for traffic and ads income.i think on quotes and nutrition.plz suggest.
I am looking for a quote I read from Albert Einstein that said he believed the future of medicine will be in? nutrition and treating the whole person. Or something like that. Anyone know what I am talking about?
Nutrition question - please help? Which vitamin, normally present in milk, would be present in much reduced quantities in skimmed milk? Explain why this would be. Why do most adults need less than the RNI values quoted for vitamins?
Which "old wives tale" about cats do you think is most misleading? So often, I see people quoting "facts" that I know aren't true, and it makes me bang my head against the desk. What spurred this question was I just saw someone, who seemed to know quite a bit about nutrition, who recommended dry food because it "cleans a cat's teeth". I think its strange that people can hear something once, and then never research it and believe it forever. What do you think are the biggest commonly accepted misconceptions about raising/feeding/caring for cats?
anyone find God through nutrition? don't quote the bible. all you have to do is say yes or no. if yes, share the story
Energy cannot be created or destroyed only converted? does this quote implies reincarnation? Like our soul is being transferred to other organism and what not, or is it that our body's energy is just used as nutrition for the world? And I don't want to hear this "God" crap. I use soul as our personality not in a way of thinking about God

plz help answer this complicated problem? "If you're asking a lot from your mind and body, you must be prepared to properly nourish it too," notes Robin Foroutan, a nutritionist and holistic health counselor certified by the Institute for Integrated Nutrition in New York. In the context of extended computer use, please explain what Robin is trying to convey in this quote. Support your answer with facts. Your answer should not include your opinion.

Can the words in this blog be seen as SLANDER of LIBEL?? I'm confused.? My sister has a blog in which she talks about nutrition and fitness. She has written a post in which she quotes some of the words of a fitness specialist in his own blog as to particular opinions he has and methods he uses in his fitness and nutrition practice. She even has a link to his very blog post. She is quoting him because she finds some of his opinion, and some of his methods, to be injurious to his clients. To avoid libel, she doesn't say directly that HE is injuring his clients, but that those kind of opinions and methods by any fitness specialist are injurous, nauseating, unknowledgeable, and why. But I'm worried that if she posts it, she could still be sued for libel.. Wikipedia says "Slander refers to a malicious, false, and defamatory spoken statement or report, while libel refers to any other form of communication such as written words or images" Her words are not false, and she doesn't say HE is wrong, but does does say the methods and opinions are wrong...but couldn't she be accused of using defamatory comments? Where is free speech in all this, as long as she writes her disagreement with him respectfully and generally?? I'm confused
Vitamin B12 for Vegetarians? I have repeatedly seen questions on here asking about this. Many people answer, with quotes or links to VEGAN web sites and VEGAN dietitians and VEGAN nutrition experts who say plant sources of B12 is unreliable, doesn't absorb as efficiently and it must be supplemented. Those folks get thumbs down all the time...Some are called names or treated VERY badly. ARE the vegan sources wrong?? If so, what is a reliable vegan source of nutritional information? 18 hours ago - 3 days left to answer. The research I did also said that other foods do have Vitamin B12 but our bodies don't absorb as much of it as is in there which is why those sources are considered "unreliable." It didn't mean that there was none in there. why am I obsessed with vegans and vegetarians? Why because I have children and grand children of all ages and some are leaning toward the vegetarian lifestyle. It would be irresponsible of me to tell them things that weren't true when asked for advice as us grandmas often are. Because I am omnivore doesn't mean I deserve less accurate information, does it? So out of the 9 answers so far, I have 4(including "Daisy" who say that B12 is hard to come by or absorb) I have 4 that say just the opposite and 1 answer that is sort of in between... That is the same sort of nonsense I find on the internet.... So how DOES a vegan/vegetarian make decisions when the answers are torn like that. Frankly, ALL the answers, except one sound knowledgeable, factual and some are including links to other sources....and yet contradictory....
What does a permaculture practitioner eat? The following is a direct quote from The current newsletter of the Permaculture Association UK: Permaculture Works (Vol II Issue 11 Autumn 2009) I would LOVE to hear your views particularly if you are a Permaculturist. Page 11 Your letters from Peter Wheat (direct quotes) 'What does a Permaculture Practitioner eat? Clearly local and vegetarian or Vegan, but the typical vegetarian diet is packed with things that only grow well in hotter countries (eg. soya, lentils, sesame, millet etc?) The other key consideration is getting balanced nutrition in terms of protein, carbohydrates and minerals. I would also be interested to know if any readers consider themselves expert in this area?' Peter Wheat End Quote: So Permaculturists what are the glaringly obvious problems here? Excellent answer Boho Garnet, but your information on B12 is actually incorrect. ALL vitamin B12 in the world comes from BACTERIA. Plants nor animals can synthesize it. Animal foods are rich in B12 ONLY because they eat plant materials contaminated by the bacteria. The amount of B12 we actually need is tiny about 3 MICROgrams per day, it is stored in the liver, tissues and kidneys for a long time (at least five years) you would have to be very persistently negligent to actually get B12 deficiency. The cases of B12 deficiency are usually found in meat eaters NOT vegans. Intestinal parasites compete for it, cigarette smoking can detroy it over time as can genetic problems of absorbtion. Very few Vegans actually get vitamin B12 deficiency because many grow their own foods/garden. It is the PROCESSING of manufactured foods whereby microorganisms are routinely washed off produce (with Chlorine) that eliminates the B12 bacteria. Such tiny amounts of B12 is needed that even if you (cont) home grown produce if you are eating it regularly it will provide the tiny amounts needed. Similarly, there is strong evidence to suggest that Vitamin B12 is lacking more in meat eating diets because of the Veggie/Vegan's awareness of diet and even if talking about manufactured vegetarian/vegan foods these are routinely fortified with B12 whereas manufactured mixed diet foods are not. see Davey G.K., Spencer E.A., Appleby P.N., Allen N.E., Knox K.H. and Key T.J. 2003. EPIC-Oxford: lifestyle characteristics and nutrient intakes in a cohort of 33 883 meat-eaters and 31 546 non meat-eaters in the UK. Public Health Nutrition. 6 (3): 259-69. (Continued) Research shows that B12 from fortified foods is better absorbed than B12 from meat, poultry and fish (remember meat eaters get their B12 from secondary sources the bacteria on the plants has to be eaten by the animals). Again numerous research articles confirming this including: Institute of Medicine. Food and Nutrition Board. Dietary Reference Intakes: Thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin B12, pantothenic acid, biotin, and choline. National Academy Press. Washington, DC, 1998. Alongside this there ARE other natural sources of B12 that CAN be found in a Vegan diet such as mushrooms grown outdoors (usually those sold as organic as they have not been subjected to chemicals in production or cleaning). Although fermented soya foods and seaweeds and yeasts don't provide a reliable source (quantity of B12 the same each time) including them in the diet does contribute significantly over time to maintaining high B12 levels. Also see http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArEIJx_o8C2bZQ2hXpZegu7ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090910064727AArqCws Also see the answers here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ako5dVl4YPlqtrX0mJHLGXfty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090910071309AAxc5Vw The glaring obvious problems with being a Vegan 'Permaculturist' is not just about EATING the eggs, milk and flesh of animals. A vegan/veggie 'permaculturist' would have to have ways of doing all the things that animals do within the ecosystem for it to be truly Permaculture and mimicking the natural ecosystem. Clearly vegan/veggie ethics about using animals for labour/pest control, using the yields expected from each (animal) element (fur, feather , excrement, urine, bone, blood, scratching, pest control, weed control/clearing, as food for other stock etc etc) prevents them copying ecosystems which contain animals that regulate/drive the ecosystem. This is the very essence of permaculture. A Permaculture Practitioner does NOT even eat local food UNLESS he can not provide it himself. Permaculture is about self sufficiency with limited trading with neighbours where needs can not be met BUT it is about self sufficiency of shelter, materials, fuel and dealing with wastes ALSO.
Does Supreme joy as Christians come from the fact the world is miserable or is it just a good sales pitch? One exception? Grief!!! So to what extent does the quotes from Psalms 15 and Psalm 16 reflect to sons of Abraham, rejoice and be exceedingly glad for great is your reward in the Kingdom of Heaven? I think it cuts me up pretty bad the more joyful folks I see who have led a goodly life of no fuss no bother just consistant loving kindness of gentle stoicism where absolutely NO woe is me exists? On the other hand when I see folks telling folks how much they love them allowing laziness apathy excuses and transfering blame to innocent bystanders even in the same workplace as incompetant I look more and more to absurdism the ideals of life is too short to waste time argueing with incompetant and maliciously spiteful persons wanting to hurt everyone they meet then lie decieve and deflect delay delude and deny? Whom have you met lately you grieve their loss non family friends aquaintences and did you handle it with peace only or nutrition too and to what effect did you learn what humble good they did as quiet achievers after they had gone rather than acknowledging and commending them for the good they do whilst they're here even if they did it for the common good in society or their religion or beliefs? Absurdism? What constitutes not being loving as a community relations officer with no charity, note cost examples excluded? Omittable no marks here just a bonus all else being equal TEN POINTS HOW AWESOME IS THAT? MARKED IN THE HOUR FOR QUICK POINTS!!!!!!!!!!
Why are cons so upset about the First Lady wanting us all to be healthier? The First Lady's incessant critics insist intrusive nutrition activism goes way too far and that's why they're angry. I mean, just look at this goody-goody health rhetoric: "We're just too darned fat." And "Overweight and obesity are among the most pressing new health challenges we face today." And "The fight against obesity begins at home." And "America needs to get healthier one small step at a time. Each small step does make a difference, whether it's taking the stairs instead of an elevator or snacking on fruits and vegetables." And "Americans need to understand that overweight and obesity are literally killing us." Can't you just hear conservatives complaining about how meddling and annoying the First Lady is? Right, except all those above quotes came from Tommy Thompson while serving as President Bush's Secretary of Health and Human Services. In fact, it was Thompson who once urged every American to lose ten pounds as a patriotic gesture, and suggested Congress pass tax credits for people who thinned down. (Talk about a big government approach!) Indeed, the previous Republican administration, like the current one, loudly rang the alarm about the nation's obesity epidemic, while beseeching kids to eat healthier and to exercise more. So why weren't the cons and the right-wing noise machine angry then?
ive just adopted an 8 year old african grey(congo) who plucks, or over grooms terribly!? (sorry 4 the spelling)gotta gofast) he is 8. previous owner moved over seas. Said he was a "over groomer" since she got him at 14 weeks. He is a sweetheart too. But from MY personal observations,he has been pretty much cage bound and under "attentioned" - but still had both -and has an ALL DIET OF HUMAN FOOD. refuses to eat anything else, and not too terribly healthy! He is pretty well bare +Fuzz. Vet said possibly over 'frizzing' (her vet) which could be, and possibly is totally true.It could been a bad habit never corrected or nurtured and turned to habit. He took to my hand within a minute of a 5hr ride and said "hello____" I was amazed. I'd thought for sure it would be a week before he would come out of his over enormous toy filled cage, much less talk. So, is the bacon and eggs every morning and ice cream at night and only ppl food, (nutrition, vit A..) I knoe the requirements such as boredom, vit deffiecies....what I do not however, is if a 'habit' of 8 years can get better. He can be as plucked as he wants, if he thinks its it how he needs to be?...but I feel for the little booger~! If it is an emotional issue I will fill EVERYSIMGLE gap there is, over time, w/o overload...I hope i can get him slowly into a good pellet diet as well as human OK food..in moderation..... ALOE vera a money hungry spread myth or a real thing? Ah! i just hope he will adjust to his new life over time, and live happily, new feathers or not. I would rather make an allready needy parrot a new bird w a new life (as best i know how) than eagerly purchase a weaned or hand fed which modt ppl have NO IDEA whaty they are doing! to support money hungry breeders. Thanks all. Advice is appericated....pleas no"take to the vet" quotes...i am in a small town, most avairy vts dont know more than i do. and charge TWO arms and a leg. $ is not an issue,he has to been to many ,and it is is said " just an over groomer..." >>>
Anyone else sick of the high and mighty miss know it all? To everyone who is a regular on the toddler and preschool section: Is it just me or does a certain person known as K seem to think she knows everything there is to know about children? Every one of her answers are very demeaning to the asker. She always quotes parts of the asker's question in a way that makes the asker seem like a stupid, ignorant, and uneducated parent. None of her evidence to back up the information she gives are from actual credible medical sources. She frequently writes about the uselessness of Pediasure in children and makes fun of parents who believe Pediasure is good for their children. I am a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who has completed 6 years of college with a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in Pediatric Nursing. I have worked with hundreds of children who have had difficulty with eating, poor appetite, sensory problems, food aversions, psychological problems, eating disorders, picky eating, and chewing difficulties who have used Pediasure as a nutritional supplement or as complete nutrition. These children receive numerous benefits from Pediasure including achieving weight gain and growth, reduced hospital admissions, reduced number of infections and viruses, and increased energy to achieve developmental milestones. While a diet with a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy products, and lean proteins is the best nutritional plan for children, Pediasure can be a good alternative solution when such a diet is not possible. In addition to K's rants and raves about Pediasure, she always finds some way to make herself seem like "parent of the year" at the expense of the feelings of others. K seems like a very unhappy person who puts others down to make herself feel better. Perhaps she is dealing with her own insecurities. A traumatic childhood, a regret from a parenting decision of her own, or even low self-esteem. So K, I feel very sorry for you and I can recommend a few very good therapists that can help you overcome your own guilt and insecurities so that one day maybe you can be a happier person.
Why do some Chinese people believe that eating rat meat cures baldness? I have just read this report in the China Daily (link below) about the rat restaurants in Guangzhou, which quotes a Chinese man stating that eating rat meat cures baldness. Is this why the rat meat restaurants are so popular? and is there any scientific proof of this claim? Is it true that "A rat equals three chickens in term of nutrition"? Apparently mouse meat is also popular but "Most of the mouse meat is actually from sewer rats, rather than field mice,..." Is this true also? http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/cndy/2010-05/06/content_9814785.htm
Asalam w.do u know how fasting can actually improve your health? I read this article and it helped me learn what are the ways that fasting can improve someones health. Also on tv the sheik advises anyone with any health problem like high blood pressure ,diabetes, cholestrol to fast even during the fitr days . 1. Attitude About Juice Fasting: One key to juice fasting over water fasting is the ability to prevent ketosis (disrupted carbohydrate metabolism in response to chronic starvation) by continuously providing simple carbohydrates that are used by your body for energy and nutrition to the cells. Some individuals, however, believe that carb overload is the reason why Americans are fat. 2. Attitude about Skipping Meals: One study suggests that skipping a meal occasionally is not all that bad, especially if weight loss is a goal. However, be aware of changes in metabolic rate (see below). 3. Autonomic Nervous System: According to this article, fasting appears to have a normalizing effect on the overall tone of the autonomic nervous system. This normalization decreases possibilities for a number of issues ranging from digestive disturbances to anxiety disorders. 4. Awareness: Fasting can heighten awareness, depending upon the health of the individual, the goal for fasting and the ability to eliminate toxins from the system. 5. Back Pain: Back pains caused by muscular tightness and stress rather than from bone disease or osteoporosis may be alleviated with a lighter diet or juice fasting. 6. Bad Health Habits: In some people, fasting has helped break cravings for alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and some drug addictions. 7. Blood Pressure: Water fasting may correct your high blood pressure to a safe range within two weeks without drugs. This level of pressure can be maintained if the diet is changed rather than going back to old eating habits. This study was conducted in a controlled setting. 8. Cell Proliferation: This study, done on mice, showed that intermittent fasting slowed cell production, which also showed cancer development. Slowing down the rate of cell proliferation essentially buys time for the cells to repair genetic damage that may cause cancer. 9. Cholesterol: One study about a 30-day Muslim fast showed significant decrease in LDL (”bad” cholesterol), total serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides at the end of the fasting period. There also was a significant increase in “good” cholesterol (HDL) that showed at the end of the fast and continued to show for one month after the fast. 10. Chronic cardiovascular disease and congestive heart failure: Fasting can reduce triglycerides, atheromas, total cholesterol and may increase HDL levels. 11. Energy Flow: Through this logic, fasting enables the body to slow down to the point where the individual can listen to the body through the mind. This ‘vital force’ is clouded when the body is filled with toxins. However, one study with flies showed that the value of diminished appetite to an animal’s survival may vary with the infecting microbe. 12. Fat Mobilization [PDF]: Fasting may move the body to mobilize fat stores from adipose tissue (the fat under your skin) to consume that fat as energy. Short fasts also may protect proteins in your body with the release of a growth hormone. 13. Heart Health: The day-long, once-a-month fast many Mormons undertake as a part of their faith may help explain the lower rates of coronary artery disease in this population, according to a study presented at the American Heart Assn.’s scientific sessions in Orlando, Florida, in 2007. 14. Homeostasis: Basically, your metabolic equilibrium, or ability to heal, could undergo a change during fasting. When fasting is employed as a therapeutic measure, it changes the playing field for disease and infection. This article quotes Louis Pasteur, “The pathogen is nothing, the terrain is everything” for an argument on why fasting can be used as a cure for injury or disease. 15. Insulin and Blood Sugars: A study from the National Institute on Aging found that skipping meals frequently can help mice maintain healthier glucose and insulin levels. The study provides insight into the possible effect of fasting on glucose metabolism. 16. Life Span: The point behind this list of articles and studies is that caloric reduction, overall, is one way to increase a life span. Lower metabolic rates, slower cell proliferation and less body fat that holds toxic matter all lead to a healthier life. This translates, for many people, into a longer life. 17. Lifestyle: If you want to change your life to feel healthier and more productive, this author believes that fasting provides the pivot for that change. 18. Mental Alertness: When toxins are removed from the lymphatic and blood systems, this change improves mental clarity. Eating less also results in energy conservation, which can be used by the brain for thinking tasks. 19. Metabolism: While many people believe that a fast metabolism is key to weight loss, ramadan kareem http://current.com/1ubgm4c
Can anybody help plz? 10 points? Hello everyone! I have to do controlled assesment for Home Economic GCSE and the issue that I decided to look at is : food wastage in Northern Ireland. In part(a) I have to epxlain why I have chosen this issue. So no doubt here. I experience the doubt with part (b). That is what student guide telling me: "Youn now need to research your chosen issue using a wide range of sources of information. These could include: internet, book, leaflets, brochures, dvds etc. Then it says "You must reference all of the sources that you use in your work as you go along and in a bibliography. An example of reference might be "Calcium helps to form bones and teeth and is one of the most important minerals" (Examining Food and Nutrition, Ridgewell). Here I have a problem. This part allows maximum 1000 words, so what do i have to do? Do I have to talk about the issue in my own words and then use the information such as "It says a family throws throws away an avergae of £15.70 worth of food every month" (British paper The Telegraph). This clearly shows that families not only throwing away food but also their money. I have to do it that way? Because if i include all the quotations from the websites, i will not have enough space explaining it all in my own words as it 1000 maximum.... Or do I have to write an essay of 1000 words, in my own words, and then write on the other page the quotes and sources??? I asked my classmates and they all saying different things. plz help
Am i becoming anorexic? Please Help!? I just wanted to know if i am starting to develop an eating disorder or not. I am 5'6, 15 and weigh around 126lbs. I have lost 5lbs in the last few weeks. I want to be 90lbs desperately. I keep track of my calories in an online food diary and try my hardest to stick to under 800-1000 calories a day however i usually end up going around the 1150 calorie mark. I keep a journal filled with quotes, meal/diet plans, skinny models, self hate letters and more. There is also a powerpoint presentation on my laptop which i look at and update often. It is filled with diet rules, more photos, my weight loss goal and history, pro ana website addresses, diary entries and more. I hate my body and see fat a lot of the time. It's like there is two voices inside my head, one telling me not to eat, to lose 36lbs and be the skinniest person ever, and another one telling me you have to eat, your beautiful and healthy already. I also sort of want to be anorexic, i know that is cruel and horrible to say, but its true. I want to be hospitalized for anorexia because then i will have reached an enormous goal and i will be the envy of other girls. I weigh my self at least 2 or 3 times a day, and i am heart broken if my weight has gone up. I read and memorize nutrition labels, and have lists of safe foods and unsafe foods. I try not to eat much at school, but my friends will ask my why, i make up excuses, but i can't do that all the time. No matter what i eat, i feel guilty. My friends think i am sad all the time now as well. I guess i am sadder than i used to be, but i am happier at home. I am EXHAUSTED ALL THE TIME and feel like i have no energy, even though i get about 9hrs sleep a night. But that might just be because i am a teenager. I don't know what to do. I can't speak to anyone, because i don't think they will take me seriously. I mean, i'm still a perfectly normal weight. Please Help!!!
I am really really confused with my essay :( can someone PLEASE help me? We are supposed to take a stance on a situation or a problem and argue it. I have written my opening paragraph literally 8 or 9 times now, and every time I show it to my professor, she says that I am not taking a clear stance, or presenting a clear argument.... i am so frustrated at this point, because i dont see how you cant see what im arguing :( please help me! i am so frustrated!!!! what should i do? "That world-famous mouse that started it all has grown from a humble rodent on a steamboat, into a corporation worth over fifty-seven billion dollars, and as the great Walt Disney has said, “...it will continue to grow as long as there is still imagination left in the world.” The ensemble of Disney princesses that have steamed as a result, has become not only an international sensation, but is a completely necessary and integral component of a young girl’s fantasies. Although the beautiful role models provide hours of entertainment and laughter for young fans, many resources, like the Canadian Journal of Health and Nutrition argue that subliminally, the figures that young girls idolize portray attractiveness in a way can distort what practical beauty is. Author, Janine Israel quotes Canadian doctors saying, “While eating disorders are caused by a number of colliding psychological, physiological and social factors, it is believed that marketers… and an image-obsessed culture all play a role in contributing to increased body dissatisfaction among children.” From the classic movies of the past, to the modern-day meet and greets at Disney parks, the Walt Disney Company's unrealistic portrayal of women has inadvertently pressured young girls to fit into an impossible mold of beauty, which is leading to a nationwide onset of body dissatisfaction and an array of psychological, physical and emotional problems." do you agree that there is no "clear stance" and WTF can i do to fix this?? @ Buba Buba, if you had actually read what I wrote, you wouldve seen that I am not asking you to do my homework. I am asking you to read what I have written, and give me some feedback.
Pro ana and mia sites... where do they get off? Ok, I'm a little shocked to be reading about all of these pro ana and mia websites... I had to do a project for school about diet and nutrition and It just makes me sick! For people who don't know, pro ana and mia sites are sites that are encouraging and giving tips basically on how to be anorexic, and the owners of the sites think that they are doing these girls (and some boys) favours, giving them a "community". Now I know that being anorexic is a disorder, and people don't choose to be, but I don't get how people who have a problem and know it can go around telling other vulnerable girls to starve themselves. Quotes like this shock me * “This is forever. I will do whatever it takes. I want to be thin more than anything, even food” * “One day I will be thin enough. Just the bones, no disfiguring flesh. Just the pure clear shape of me, bones. That is what we all are, what we're made up of and everything else is just storage, deposit, waste. Strip it away, use it up” * “Food hinders your progress” * “How many pounds till I am happy, how many pounds till I get thin? Three more pounds till I am skinny, three more pounds and I win!” * “When you coast without eating for a significant period of time, and you are still alive, you begin to scoff at those fools who believe they must eat to live. It is blatantly obvious to you that this is not true” I'm not exaggerating, every time i read these it makes my heart beat really fast and i get a bit shaky, why do they do it - tell girls who obviously need help that they need to be skinnier? what is your opinion? wow, great answer, louise, that really helped me to start to understand why thay do it, and thats exactly why I am asking...
How much vitamin C is in one cup of green tea? -Please find a credible article or something that has this information. -Please do not quote "there's more vitamin "C" in one cup of green tea than in an orange" from www.worldconsortium.com/tea.htm because I already read it and it's the ONLY article that makes such a claim about green tea that I could find. -Please do not quote an online "nutrition facts" analysis that says vitamin C 0% because most of the time that only means they did not have data for vitamin C for green tea so it defaults to 0.
Source for Kofi Annan quote: "Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope...."? The entire quote is: "Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. It is a tool for daily life in modern society. It is a bulwark against poverty, and a building block of development.... Especially for girls and women, it is an agent of family health and nutrition. For everyone, everywhere, literacy is, along with education in general, a basic human right.... Literacy is, finally, the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential." I want to know where this was ORIGINALLY said. I've found Annan's quote on several sites, but I want to know if this is from a speech, an essay, etc. Does anyone know where (and when) this was said?
Boyfriend is not helpful or encouraging about my dieting? OK so I have been dieting for about a month and 2 weeks now and so far I have lost about 13 pounds. I am not on a fad diet, I have decided I would like to change my way of eating permanently. I no longer drink any type of beverage other than water and herbal teas. I have cut cakes, icecream, chips, fries, burgers, sweets, and any type of junk food out of my diet. I eat 70% dark chocolate in a very small amount if I ever crave sweet stuff. I still eat meat but sparingly, and I rarely eat pork or beef now. I eat a lot of salmon and fruits. I keep my calories under 1500 every day and play just dance 2 every single day for about 30 minutes to an hour. I also walk a lot since I don't have a car. Anyway the point is, my bf has not been encouraging with this at all. He will bring food over late at ngiht even though I have told him it is terrible for ANYONE's health to eat late. Thankfully I have become so determined that I will pass up the food unless it is some type of fruit. He also thinks just because he's skinny that he is above eating healthy. He has terrible knowledge of nutrition and actually thinks and i quote 'fries are not so bad'!!! When I told him how I have been dieting and everything he was less than enthusiastic which I CANNOT understand at all because I know he wouldn't mind if I lost a few pounds, because I could afford to lose some. Anyway so I was sick for a day right and he said oh maybe it's because I'm restricting so much from my diet but ofcourse I knew this wasn't true because I eat good foods and do not starve myself. When I told him this he said oh maybe you need to exercise, because you don't exercise at all. I got so pissed at him, I said helloo I have been dancing every day now and I walk everyday. He seriously thinks that exercise is the solution and that it will solve everything without dieting. It's like he doesn't mind if I exercise but when I mention I eat healthy now he doesn't want anything to do with it!! Is this because he is so incredibly careless with what he eats or he just genuinely does not know anything about nutrition?? I am beginning to suspect he doesn't because he has terrible habits himself. One day he treated me to a dinner and I made an exception because it was a special occasion and after we'd eaten out he just wanted to go back to the house and sit around at the computer and watch tv. I told him I wanted to take a walk so the food would digest and not go straight to my stomach. He acted like this was the strangest thing ever and said oh but it's not good to do a lot of movement after you eat, you should sit! I mean OMG did his parents teach him anything? Wow it just really drives me nuts that he has such terrible habits and thinks cuz he's small that it won't affect his health at all. IT also discourages me a bit because he doesn't encourage my new diet and isn't proud of me or happy for me that I lost some weight. While it's not enough to discourage me from going back to my old ways, I still feel a bit sad that he doesn't acknowledge it..
White bread is a simple? Quote White bread is a simple starch that converts to sugars easily. It has little nutrition. A whole grain bread is better. It has fiber and more nutrients.Quote What is simple starch and conplex starch ? Does it have alot of sugar in it than brown bread? If people have diabetes should one eat bread? Quote Mashed potatoes means taking the peel (fiber and most of the vitamins) off the potato, boiling it, and adding butter and milk or cream. So you remove the best parts and add fat. Quote Why do you need to add butter and milk or cream to it?
Can anyone who is medically certified give me correct information on healthy weight-gain during pregnancy? I am writing my final story for my college career and I really need to quote someone on healthy/ un-healthy nutrition and weight-gain during a pregnancy. What should you eat? Diet and exercise? Is everyone going to gain the same amount? How much is too much? Should I personally feel bad about having gained 80 lbs? (I've only got 8 left to lose in under 1 yr after pregnancy) What's the right/wrong answer? Is there one? I went through a pregnancy and gained nearly 80 pounds - oops! :) I am looking for someone who wouldn't mind being quoted in a story that I'm writing for class at The University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss. I tried contacting my local nurses, but they're quite difficult to get in touch with! I'd truly appreciate any help I could get. It would be great if we could email back and forth also! I can get all the info I need via the internet, so I'm mainly looking for a specific quote from someone with a medical background. Thanks! If you were a journalism major, you would realize that getting someone to quote is a necessary evil, and it's not cheating. As aforementioned, I have done the research, I need a quote. I need voices. Thanks for no help, Beck.
Scan and smear tips? The follow paragraph is quote from Martin Amis "Time's Arrow". "It is significant, I am assuming, that nearly all our love affairs come to an end in the consulting rooms of Associated Medical Services. A professional formality prevails as we stand there with one or other of our girlfriends, against a backdrop of height and weight graphs, nutrition rosters, scan and smear tips, and signs saying things like Do You Have Endometriosis?......" Maybe this is a very easy question, but I really can't catch the meaning of "scan and smear tips". Please answer me.
What does this quote means? The Harvard Law states: Under controlled conditions of light, temperature, humidity, and nutrition, the organism will do as it damn well pleases.”

79 yr old. Always weak;120lbs, 5'10". What tests should I request? The docs are scratching their heads over me. Meantime, I'm miserable. All labs come out ok, though platelets alone were hi. BP is fine, sometimes a bit low. Heart checked out ok. Note I had one lung removed at 30 yrs old, never had complications thereafter. The Neurologist says it is not neurological... he says, quote "your muscles and nerves are starving for nutrition". He believes it's a small cancer. The oncologist says there is no cancer. Diet is balanced but I have zero appetite and no sense of taste. I make sure I force myself to eat, it is balanced and includes Ensure. But I can't get too much into me so it's just consistent with the little energy I need; I want to be hungrier; I want to have more energy; I want to gain weight; I want to be active. This has gradually worsened over about 3-4 years, very slowly.
Isn't Miranda Kerr the cutest, sweetest model you've ever seen? ANSWER PLEASE!? Miranda Kerr is my role model. She does what I want to do in my life. She's a model and she has been quoted saying, "I've always had a burning desire to make a difference in the world". I look up to her, because I want to be a model and help the world too. She wrote book called "Treasure Yourself" for young girls, containing her advise on nutrition, and how to imprve your self esteem and better your life. Miranda was quoted saying, "Basically, it's a whole lot of information that I've found, that has helped me. If I can help one girl by doing this then I've completed my purpose". I think that's amazing of her. It shows she truely cares and only wants the best for today's young girls. She also showed her support for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. She featured in this years edition of the Austrailian Pink Magazine. When I discovered this, I only adored her even more. I love that she cares about today's real life issues. I know she is also involved with a children's charity. She wants to help kids. How sweet! I really appreciate that about her. Also, nevertheless, Miranda is beautiful. She is an incredible model. She really knows how to work the runway and be fierce. She's gorgeous.
Becoming a registered dietitian (already have a bachelors degree)? Can anyone tell me what my next step would be in this? Don't just quote eatright.org at me, bc my situation is a little complicated. I'm currently a junior at university, graduating with a degree in Psychology, and a minor in criminology. I've had a change of heart or rather a focus...and I would like to become an RD. I'm willing to go to school again seeing as previously I was planning on going to graduate school. I do have some degree in nutrition though-- I've taken 2 semesters in Bio , and 1 chem, and I actually volunteer at the nutrition department in my local hospital. I've read that I don't NEED a degree in nutrition, rather just the coursework for it, and something about CADE... so what's my next step here? More than a little confused.
Chinese are cannibals, how do you feel about that? http://livenews.com.au/news/world/placenta-trade-booming-in-china-despite-government-ban/2009/8/5/215150 Hospitals in China are engaging in a thriving trade in fresh human placentas despite a government ban, state media says. Placentas are seen as a source of nutrition. A recent investigation showed that they sell for up to 250 yuan ($A42.65) each, even though the health ministry prohibited the business more than four years ago, the Global Times reported on Wednesday. "(They) are rich in nutrition and good for human health," said a doctor surnamed Kong who retired in 2006 from the department of gynaecology at a hospital in northeast China's Heilongjiang province. "I have eaten them several times," she said according to the paper. A newspaper reporter at East Asia Economic and Trade News posed as a placenta buyer and found that the Jilin Gynaecology and Obstetrics Hospital in northeast Jilin province was a prolific supplier. After initial negotiations, the reporter received a bloody placenta in a black plastic bag at a pre-arranged meeting in the hospital, according to the Global Times. Some Chinese believe that placentas increase the body's resistance to disease and are especially good for those with frail health, according to the paper. "If the mother is very healthy, the baby was a boy and was her first born, the placenta price increases," an unnamed buyer was quoted as saying.

Could control of dogs echo gun laws? This is a follow up to the question I posted a few weeks back (which got deleted) about the child who was killed by a Rottweiler in Pasco County Florida. According to the local law enforcement agency in this area of Florida the dog was only a year old, not neutered, had been owned for 2 months, was kept chained outside with it's food bowl out of reach. We have gun control laws, inacted in 1989 in Florida requiring gun owners to store firearms in a locked box or a container with a trigger lock if they had reasonable knowledge that a child younger than 15 could get access to the weapons. Adults can be held criminally negligent if the child gains access to the weapon and injures himself or another. Now, the same thing is being proposed for dog owners who's animal behavior results in injury or death of a human. Quoting a law professor's answer to the question: Could a similar law (referring to gun control) be applied to dog ownership? Lynn Epstein (law professor) answers: "The potential for a dog to cause harm is often greatest risk due to conditions created by the owner". She also had written an article in 2006 titled "There are no bad dogs, only bad owners". Dog bite risks: Conditions that can increase the likelihood of dog aggression and can lead to attacks: 1) A dog kept on a chain or tether 2) Male dogs are unneutered 3) Inhumane treatment, including poor nutrition, health or isolating living conditions that prevent a dog from being socialized. 4) Sudden or actions toward or near the dog that provoke fear in the dog. 5) Introduction of new people, children or animals into the dog's territory. Mike Halkitis, assistant state attorney, contends you have to show that the owners had knowledge of the viciousness of the animal in order to prosecute the owners. Kenneth Phillips, a California attorney says and I quote: "It is the behavior of people that causes dog bites and dog maulings and what I call canine homicides". These incidents have been called 'horrible tragedies" and very few dog owners have been held accountable for their dog's actions. So, my question is should there be 'dog control' laws enacted? Prosecution of the owners and prison time? Your thoughts, please.
Weaning before six months 'may help breastfed babies'? This is the on the bbc news website, what do you guys think? i'm a bit confused now my baby is 15 weeks today and according to this I could feed her soilds as early as 1st feb. Relying purely on breastfeeding for the first six months might not be best for babies, experts in the UK have warned. In the British Medical Journal, the team said breastfed babies may benefit from being given solid food earlier. Current advice suggests weaning should occur at six months, but the UCL team say it could happen as early as four. They suggest later weaning may increase food allergies and iron deficiency levels, but other experts backed the existing guidance. Ten years ago, the World Health Organization published global advice advocating babies be exclusively breastfed for six months. The research team, led by Dr Mary Fewtrell a paediatrician from the University of London Institute of Child Health, said it supported the recommendation for developing countries, where access to clean water and safe weaning foods is limited, and there is a high risk of infant death and illness. But they added: "Many western countries, including 65% of European member states and the US, elected not to follow this recommendation fully, if at all. But in 2003, a health minister said the UK would comply. Parents 'cannot win' The WHO recommendation "rested largely" on a review of 16 studies, including seven from developing countries. It concluded that babies just given breast milk for six months had fewer infections and experienced no growth problems. Continue reading the main story “Start Quote There are a lot of babies being weaned before six months anyway” End Quote Dr Mary Fewtrell Researcher But another review of 33 studies found "no compelling evidence" not to introduce solids at four to six months, the experts said. Some research has also shown that six months of breastfeeding does not give babies all the nutrition they need. A US 2007 study found there was an increased risk of anaemia compared with those introduced to solids at four to six months. Swedish research also found that the incidence of early onset coeliac disease increased after a recommendation to delay introduction of gluten until age six months, but fell back after the recommendation reverted to four months. Dr Alan Lucas, director of the Institute of Health, said: "The WHO recommendation is very sensible for developing countries. "But in the UK, it's important we take a balanced look at the evidence." Dr Fewtrell added: "When you look at the figures, there are a lot of babies being weaned before six months anyway - and that's probably the most important thing in terms of hard evidence." 'Inappropriate feeding' But the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and the National Childbirth Trust defended current advice. And Janet Fyle, professional policy adviser at the Royal College of Midwives, said: "I really must challenge the suggestion that the UK should reconsider its current advice on exclusive breastfeeding for six months. "I believe that this is a retrograde step and plays into the hands of the baby-food industry which has failed to support the six-month exclusive breastfeeding policy in the UK. "There is evidence that some babies do die in developed countries from inappropriate young child feeding, such as the introduction of solid foods earlier before their swallowing mechanism is mature enough or they have fully developed the capability to cope with solid foods." And a Department of Health spokeswoman said: "Breast milk provides all the nutrients a baby needs up to six months of age and we recommend exclusive breastfeeding for this time. "Mothers who wish to introduce solids before six months should always talk to health professionals first." The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition is to review infant feeding and is due to report later this year.
Why God in the Bible loves to spread dung(sh*t) on faces, loves the word bowel? God's Fecal Fetish "If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it." (Malachi 2:2-3) Comment Amazingly God appears to have a fecal fetish. This commandment to the priests told by the Lord gives example of the Satanic threats of curses He seems to enjoy. What should one think of a God that would smear feces upon the faces of his creations? Such vulgarity can hardly give good example to high morality. ________________________________________ Boil and Eat Your Son "And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow. So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son...." (II Kings 6:28-29) Comment According to the Bible, a horrible famine took place in Samaria where in desperation, the people ate whatever they could. The cannibalistic eating of a son may provide sufficient nutrition for a mother but disregards the puissant nature of humans to protect their young. Although the Bible does not explain if the son had already died or if the parent deliberately killed him for food, this dreadful example goes against human nature. Long before bibles or written language, humans evolved as social animals that required the protection of their offspring. Only the dogmatic insistence of a belief-system could supersede the natural instincts of humans. Hopefully readers of the Bible who might one day experience a famine will not subvert their natural instinct for this kind of horrific example in Scripture. May I suggest that if you cannot control your belief to eat your children, sacrifice your priest and eat him instead; that way you gain far more protein for you and your children, and when you say grace, you'll have someone to really thank for your food. ________________________________________ Expose Her Breasts! "Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame. And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make the vile, and will set thee as gazingstock." (Nahum 3:5-6) "Look, I am against you!- declares Yahweh Saboath- I shall lift your skirts as high as your face and show your nakedness to the nations, your shame to the kingdoms. I shall pelt you with filth." (Nahum 3:6, The New Jerusalem Bible) Comment Some think these verses describe a genius of a poet. If judged as such, it can only come from its sharpness and vividness. But it also describes vulgarity and hatred, even if it aims against the harlotry of the city of Nineveh. Few scholars today believe that these verses come as a direct quote from God. But a fundamentalist who believes every word of the Bible, must also accept these words as Godly. If so, then how can one not see God in a cruel vulgar light? "Filth" here refers to dung. (See also Malachi 2:2-3 where God says "I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces...") ________________________________________ Fatal Orgasm "And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him. And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also." (Genesis 38:7-10) Comment The term "onanism," from the name Onan, has come to stand for masturbation which has suffered a fate similar to sodomy in the sense that it has evolved to have a meaning far different from its original usage. Dictionaries define onanism as "male masturbation" or "Uncompleted coitus." According to interpretations of the Bible, Onan removed his penis from his partner's vagina before he ejaculated so that his seed fell onto the ground. This displeased God so much that he killed him! Onanism has also received a another definition of "self pollution" which has caused misery throughout the centuries. God killed Onan because, rather than to impregnate his brother's wife-- thus extending his line, Onan chose to interrupt his coitus before he could impregnate Tamar. Onan had a logical reason for doing so, one that involved Jewish law of those ancient days. During Biblical times, any child born to the wife of the eldest son died without heirs - and if his wife had no children sired by a relative of her dead spouse - then the dominance would p
Preschooler Development? This isn't the perfect category, as I'm not a parent but I think people here would be better informed than those in Homework Help. In The Lion King, how does Simba develop? Is red wine good for you? http://www.ynhh.org/online/nutrition/advisor/red_wine.html These people say yes. However, I was listening to the BBC here in Outer Space yesterday, and another scientist said quote-unquote that there was not ' a shred of evidence' in favour of its beneficial medical properties. Hm, who should I believe. At the weekend, there is nothing nicer than a quiet drink with friends, then six noisy drinks with friends... BTW, the expression 'hobnobbing' comes from 17th Century English: hob was red wine, nob was white. People asked you 'hob or nob?' when inviting you for a noggin. It must be true, it was told to me by a tour guide when I took a school trip to Stratford-on-Avon to see Will.
question regarding anorexia..thanks :)? I know this is long, but I really appreciate it and would really like some advise about this.. Thanks :) Long story short....4years ago at 180lbs and only 5'3'' I was diagnosed with H-Pylori which is a stomach infection, it took the docs 1 year to figure out what I had before it even got treated...by the time that happened my stomach was bleeding and completely colsed shut, which is why I was throwing up nearly everything i ate and dranks during that year.....So we get transfered to a hospital in CA, by the time this happened (another year later)...I was at an all time low at 5' 4'' and 98lbs! and couldnt eat anything it hurt so bad! I found out that the infection wasnt gone which is why i couldnt eat, so they treated me for the h-pylori again and this time it went away...but....now that the infection was gone (it took 2 months for it to finally leave my body)....I was 85lbs and 5' 4''....which is deffinately a problem!...........It took me 2 and a half years to get over my fear of eating( which I had because for 2 whole years eating caused me terrible pain) plus the gasteroenterologist told me, and I quote " well, just take whatever is causeing you pain, out of your diet, and you should be fine"....obviously I wasnt fine.....anyway I have been at a healthy weight for 1year and a half now, and with little complaints of any stomach pains, but they are due from other found conditions that I had that were never before diagnosed..... So my question is concerning what happens to the body after anorexia? I have been expieriencing a lot of weight gain, and I'm not sure if its just my body still trying to straighten stuff out or what....for about 4 months I was 5' 4'' and at125 lbs which was my goal that the docs had given me..... then 1 month later I was at 130lbs...not a big deal......then another month later I was at 135...once again not a big deal....but then 1 months later I was at 145 and this time my weight was clibing higher every week, and i'm not talking 2-3 lbs, i mean 10lbs!....so I had gone from 145lbs - 158+ in two months.....I am athletic and a vegitarian and play volleyball just about every week bc I'm on a team.... I have since lost some weight and am now at 5' 4'' and 148lbs, but I struggle a lot to keep it there. I know that for my height, 148 lbs is really close to being overweight, I was overweight before, and don't want to be there again......Is it just somthing my body needs to go through to get back to being fully normal....or could it be a hormonal thing bc I do have PCOS and other things like raynauds disease...wioould they have anything to do with my unexplained weight gain?.....my eating disorder doc told me that I should look into exercising, but I feel like I get plenty of exercise..... Also i'm taking a nutrition class, and we recently did a project regarding calories and I found tht at the lowest end I'm eating about 700kcal per day and at the high end I eat 850kcals per day.....I know its low, but I eat 3 regular sized meals with my family plus 1-2 snacks a day. I believe its because I'm a vegitarian and most vegitarian foods are low in cals. anyway I know this is long but i really appreciate it!!!!!!! Thanks :)
The purpouse of living is to help others more than to help yourself? I have made a question in psychology about my life. I have asked why I'm still unhappy after following all the tips of each people I have speaked to. I know what is to be in the climb and I know what is to be in the at the bottom of the blackest. I have had a good job, girlfriend, friends, entertaiment, I have changed my nutrition habits, I have visited a doctor, etc... I have followed all the possible ways and I'm still unhappy and I have tried to kill myself 3 times. Some people have said to me that I have to do something important in this life. I'm waiting the answer more than a decade without knowing it. But I think I have to do something important in this life. I have read the next quote: "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." So, now I think that the purpouse of living is to help others rather than yourself. If we help others, other will help other, etc... and the world can be as God said. Is like a chain, if we give, we can receive. Life is like water: it's a flowing. If we act like God said, we can develop the Universal Masterpiece of Love. I cannot find the happines accomplishing my personal goals only. If I help others, it could be like a mirror. If others are better I will feel better. Maybe the life have decided that I have to learn suffering and having good times, to know what is life and try to help others. What do you think about this?
do you think this is suppose to be an essay? i have this topic analysis thing and i have to find an article about health, exercise, nutrition, etc. and do an analysis about it. my friend said it's suppose to be an essay...idk if shes right. but it says on the sheet that the analysis has to have -a bibliography -i have to identify the thesis statement or main idea -i have to write a summary of the article. -outline the key points -write a summary of my opinion on the article -state whether or not the article has a significant quotation and if it does, to quote it. -formulate 5 questions raised by the article also....it said the analysis has to be two pages. if its suppose to be an essay...i have no idea how to put all of that together and write it like one...... what do i do? is it suppose to be like an essay? any suggestions or anything anyone can do to help me w/ this would be great.
Do the following look like they should be in a "Stimulus Bill"? The Democrats are working on a Stimulus Bill as we all know. While taking very little input from the GOP, Obama, Pelosi and Reid are going their own way with this one. Which is fine I suppose BUT.... Do YOU know what is in this so called Stimulus Bill that is suppose to help this nation in a poor economy. Please note that Obama was quoted as saying "Nothing on here looks outlandish or crazy to me" Why dont you look at some thing in the bill for yourself. And while I am sure some of you are _____ enough to defend this but anyone, even a third grader, can see that this is the dumbest thing ive seen in a while. I will literally go insane if this bill passes with garbage like this in it. This bill is suppose to STIMULATE the economy. Instead the Dems are using this to put pork in to and work on re-election. None of these things should be in this bill. Think about the fact that YOU, YOUR FAMILY, and YOUR KIDS will have to pay for all this some day. This is a joke and if this is all they can come up with to help out our economy than we are in for a world of hurt for the next 4 years. It is going to get very, very bad here unless all of you call your Congressmen/Senators and tell them NOT to pass this ridiculous bill. --Undisclosed amount for contraceptives -- $650 million to help Americans upgrade to digital cable after the official transition to digital television on Feb. 17, 2009. -- $44 million to repair and improve the headquarters of the Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. -- $276 million to upgrade and modernize information technology at the State Department. -- $3.1 billion to fund “infrastructure projects” on federal land, including $1.8 billion for the National Park Service, $650 million for the U.S. Forest Service, and $300 million for the National Fish Hatcheries. -- $600 million for NASA, including $400 million for projects such as “satellite sensors that measure solar radiation critical to understanding climate change.” -- $1.9 billion for the Department of Energy for “basic research into the physical sciences,” including nuclear physics and fusion energy. -- $209 million for maintenance work at the federal Agricultural Research Service’s research facilities across the country. -- $400 million in repairs to various “national treasures,” including $200 million for revitalizing the National Mall, $150 for maintenance at the Smithsonian Institution, and $50 million to make up for a lack of philanthropic support for the arts. -- $850 million for “wildland fire management,” including $550 million to states for “volunteer fire assistance,” “city forest enhancements” and “wood to energy” projects. -- $400 million for “habitat restoration” projects to be doled out by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. -- $2.7 billion for “rural water and waste disposal” grant programs for providing loans for digging wells or extending municipal water services in rural areas. -- $2 billion to provide day care services to 300,000 additional low-income children, ostensibly while their parents are at work. -- $1.2 billion to create an estimated 1 million summer jobs for young people. -- $2.5 billion to upgrade government-owned housing projects with new insulation, windows, and furnaces. -- $6.2 billion to weatherize the homes of low-income people to make them more energy efficient. -- $2.4 billion for projects demonstrating carbon-capture technology. -- $600 million to “prepare our country for universal healthcare” by training more doctors, dentists, and nurses. -- $1.5 billion to build new “Community Health Centers.” -- $20 billion to provide “nutrition assistance” for middle-income families and to lift restrictions on how long people can receive food stamps. -- An undisclosed amount to “provide 100 percent federal funding through 2010 for optional State Medicaid coverage of individuals (and their dependents) who are receiving unemployment benefits or have exhausted those benefits.”
How to bug the pizza guy on the phone? 1. If using a touch-tone, press random numbers while ordering. Ask the person taking the order to stop doing that. 2. Make up a charge-card name. Ask if they accept it. 3. Use CB lingo where applicable. 4. Order a Big Mac Extra Value Meal. 5. Terminate the call with, "Remember, we never had this conversation." 6. Tell the order taker a rival pizza place is on the other line and you're going with the lowest bidder. 7. Give them your address, exclaim "Oh, just surprise me!" and hang up. 8. Answer their questions with questions. 9. In your breathiest voice, tell them to cut the crap about nutrition and ask if they have something outlandishly sinful. 10. Use these bonus words in the conversation: ROBUST FREE-SPIRITED COST-EFFICIENT UKRAINIAN PUCE. 11. Tell them to put the crust on top this time. 12. Sing the order to the tune of your favorite song from Metallica's "Master of Puppets" CD. 13. Do not name the toppings you want. Rather, spell them out. 14. Put an extra edge in your voice when you say "crazy bread." 15. Stutter on the letter "p." 16. Ask for a deal available somewhere else. (e.g. If phoning Domino's, ask for a Cheeser! Cheeser!) 17. Ask what the order taker is wearing. 18. Crack your knuckles into the receiver. 19. Say hello, act stunned for five seconds, then behave as if they called you. 20. Rattle off your order with a determined air. If they ask if you would like drinks with that, panic and become disoriented. 21. Tell the order taker you're depressed. Get him/her to cheer you up. 22. Make a list of exotic cuisines. Order them as toppings. 23. Change your accent every three seconds. 24. Order 52 pepperoni slices prepared in a fractal pattern as follows from an equation you are about to dictate. Ask if they need paper. 25. Act like you know the order taker from somewhere. Say "Bed-Wetters' Camp, right?" 26. Start your order with "I'd like. . . ". A little later, slap yourself and say "No, I don't." 27. If they repeat the order to make sure they have it right, say "OK. That'll be $10.99; please pull up to the first window." 28. Rent a pizza. 29. Order while using an electric knife sharpener. 30. Ask if you get to keep the pizza box. When they say yes, heave a sigh of relief. 31. Put the accent on the last syllable of "pepperoni." Use the long "i" sound. 32. Have your pizza "shaken, not stirred." 33. Say "Are you sure this is (Pizza Place)? When they say yes, say "Well, so is this! You've got some explaining to do!" When they finally offer proof that it is, in fact, (Pizza Place), start to cry and ask, "Do you know what it's like to be lied to?" 34. Move the mouthpiece farther and farther from your lips as you speak. When the call ends, jerk the mouthpiece back into place and scream goodbye at the top of your lungs. 35. Tell them to double-check to make sure your pizza is, in fact, dead. 36. Imitate the order taker's voice. 37. Eliminate verbs from your speech. 38. When they say "What would you like?" say, "Huh? Oh, you mean now." 39. Play a sitar in the background. 40. Say it's your anniversary and you'd appreciate if the deliverer hid behind some furniture waiting for your spouse to arrive so you can surprise him/her. 41. Amuse the order taker with little-known facts about country music. 42. Ask to see a menu. 43. Quote Carl Sandberg. 44. Say you'll be able to pay for this when the movie people call back. 45. Ask if they have any idea what is at stake with this pizza. 46. Ask what topping goes best with well-aged Chardonnay. 47. Belch directly into the mouthpiece; then tell your dog it should be ashamed. 48. Order a slice, not a whole pizza. 49. Shout "I'm through with men/women! Send me a dozen of your best, Gaston!" 50. Doze off in the middle of the order, catch yourself, and say "Where was I? Who are you?" 51. Psychoanalyze the order taker. 52. Ask what their phone number is. Hang up, call them, and ask again. 53. Order two toppings, then say, "No, they'll start fighting." 54. Learn to properly pronounce the ingredients of a Twinkie. Ask that these be included in the pizza. 55. Call to complain about service. Later, call to say you were drunk and didn't mean it. 56. Tell the order taker to tell the manager to tell his supervisor he's fired. 57. Report a petty theft to the order taker. 58. Use expletives like "Great Caesar's Ghost" and "Jesus Joseph and Mary in Tinsel Town." 59. Ask for the guy who took your order last time. 60. If he/she suggests anything, adamantly declare, "I shall not be swayed by your sweet words." 61. Wonder aloud if you should trim those nose hairs. 62. Try to talk while drinking something. 63. Start the conversation with "My Call to (Pizza Place), Take 1, and. . . action!" 64. Ask if the pizza is organically grown. 65. Ask about pizza maintenance and repair. 66. Be vague in your order. 67. When they repeat your order, say "Again, with a littl

US health sheriffs want to ride the sugary drinks that are helping … by Karin Zeitvogel Karin Zeitvogel – 1 hr 47 mins ago WASHINGTON (AFP) – US health sheriffs want to ride the sugary drinks that are helping to make Americans fat out of town, or at least off Americans' menu of choice, and one way they suggest going about it is by taxing sodapop. "The average American consumes roughly 250 calories more today than they did two or three decades ago, the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Thomas Frieden, said at the "Weight of the Nation" conference on obesity held in Washington this week. "And of that, about 120 calories is in the form of sodas and other sugared food and beverages," he said. The average daily recommended caloric intake for adults is about 2,000 calories per day, a number that varies depending on a person's sex, height, weight and rate of activity. Two-thirds of American adults are obese or overweight -- or shaped more like the bulbous Orangina bottle than the hourglass classic Coca-Cola bottle -- and obesity-related illnesses cost the United States nearly 150 billion dollars a year, health officials at the conference were told. A soda tax would not only help Americans to slim down but could raise revenues that would help to offset the rising sums spent to treat preventable health conditions caused by obesity. "The estimates we've seen suggest that a one-penny-per-ounce tax nationally would raise something in the order of 100 to 200 billion dollars over a 10-year time frame, as well as significantly reducing caloric intake -- at least from soda and sugar-sweetened beverages," Frieden said. According to Julie Greenstein of the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), around 40 of the 50 US states already have soft drink or junk food taxes, but they are usually too low to have an effect on consumption. The CSPI, which has advocated for health, nutrition and food safety in the United States since 1971, says a soft drink tax would "be a great way to pay for health reform and expansion" and wants to see such a tax imposed nationally. A tax on soft drinks was included as a possible option in the health reform bill drafted by the Senate finance committee, said Greenstein, although she was unsure if the proposed levy would make it through to the final version of the proposed health care legislation. "The soft drink industry has a very powerful lobby," she said. Last week, the Coca Cola Corporation was quoted in the Financial Times as saying that "the consumer in this environment is not ready for a tax on a basic staple like non-alcoholic beverages." Frieden has based his call for a soda tax on the campaign he instigated in New York City, where he was health commissioner for seven years, which practically ran the Marlboro man out of town. A year after he became health commissioner of New York in 2002, Frieden started raising taxes on cigarettes to the point where if you buy a packet of 20 in the Big Apple today, you don't get much change from 10 dollars. He reasoned that people would kick their cigarette habit if it cost too much. And he was right. "We reduced adult smoking by 25 percent and teen smoking by 50 percent in six years. About half of that reduction was the result of taxation," Frieden said. A similar tactic applied to sodas could help to cut consumption of the sugary drinks, he reasoned, but added that the decision to impose a national soda tax was one for the politicians, not health officials. "Whether it gets done is a political question, but what we can say as the nation's prevention agency is that obesity is an enormous problem, and price interventions are likely to be effective," he said. I am truly amazed by how many people prefer to have the gov't think for them. Why don't you just give your entire paycheck to them? Usually, I will present a fact based article about how stupid a bill or tax is and liberals won't answer. I applaud your efforts to justify the gov't taxing us even more and pretending like they don't have enough. Also, some of you have mentioned roads or other taxes that are supposed to be paid by property tax. I now understand that if you don't pay taxes all of these small additional taxes don't really bother you.
please be honest on your thoughts and how i should change this poem, but please dont be mean about it? Poison is in us, don’t you know? It may kill you, or it might just hurt The things it does, works in your ways All the pains, throughout the day I do see you, trying to be strong But even the bricks collapse You have your ups and downs But your downs stick and last You blame it on the poison As it runs through your veins Its not a virus, as you so proclaim I hear your cries, you’ve gone insane Look at you all twisted and skewed Your hands in the soil, ripping of the roots What have you done, this isn’t proper I hear you murmur words to me In which you say, I quote I am a poet as society tells me I am a poet not, stereotypically I have sat under this very tree Every day, it persecutes me You see that flower? It used talk to me, as I to it But no longer I will, I stitched its lips For what it told, only beautified lies My dear poet, why do you so claim to be? I have heard your speak No metaphors or similes So dear poet, please tell me If you really are as you claim to be, please, Explain to me is this poison you see The answer you gave, a shocking surprise Poison, a simple thing, its all around us It lives in our hearts, in the soil, you see It produces the poison, that flows through our veins Pumping, oxygenating, fueling your words But little do we need, just a spark Of inspiration to start our creation The mind, such a beautiful thing So complex and dense, in which we see as evil The thing you don’t understand This poison that we think of as evil Is made into our roots it is part of us, the beauty that makes us But evil grows where there is no light Darkness and neglect will only grow weeds Its not human nature but our human tendencies Implanted into our society, do you see Poison is really just a seed Our thoughts and actions The nutrition in which it feeds Now its our choice, how you would like it to grow You can choose light and beauty Or you can choose darkness and horrible things, but Thank you my dear poet, now I know you are I think, I know what you are about to say Those who chose light will have those rainy days But those who choose darkness Only have the occasional gray I now understand, the seed I once held Now only blades of grass with the rare weed Thank my dear poet, you have opened my eyes
advanced palliative care- is it ethical? Hi, this is an ethical question, please don't quote too many bible phrases. PLEASE READ: i am NOT in ANY way condoning or suggesting that we let people die/ kill people/ euthanise people, i am merely asking whether it is ethically and spiritually right to let a person keep suffering here on earth with tubes doing all their bodily functions... anywho i'm a nurse working in aged and palliative care. heres how it happens: when a person stops walking, we put them in a special chair that tilts back. they sit in it ALL day. (painful). when they stop eating, we feed them. when they stop coping with that, we put a naso gastric tube in them, or we put a tube into their stomach and give them liquid nutrition through it. when they stop being able to use their bowels or urinate (which often happens) we cathetorise them (tube into the bladder), we give them suppositories to use their bowels, and sometimes do surgery to make it happen. when their breathing starts to stop, we put an oxygen tube into their lungs. when their heart stops, we do CPR so i ask.. how can a person simply just die when we can stop so much of death from happening? is it ethical to keep doing these measures or should we simply be keeping a person comfortable and letting their body go as it wants? (i realise that it is the patients choice, but many of my aged and palliative patients have advanced dementia/ psychosis and are no longer able to decide for themselves). elements: agreed. i'm getting a living will drawn up sooner or later to say that unless there is a significant chance i will make a decent recovery- then no medical intervention is allowed. want to die in peace.
Vet Quote: It's not the quantity of protein in food that's important, it's the quality? I'm a student Vet Nurse, we're currently covering the importance of good nutrition. My Lecturer (Veterinary Surgeon) Said a lot of people when buying dog food say things like "Well it's got X% protein, so you know it's good." But she disagrees, she says it's not the quantity, it's QUALITY of that protein that's important. Your thoughts on this? How can you be sure it's of good quality? And before I get bombarded- I'm WELL aware of the natural, raw and BARF diets. I just want your thought on this particular question.
Fred I would truly love to hear your views on this topic and it is not out of context it demonstrates a growing trend within UK Permaculture and there were several Permaculturists/people with a broad knowledge of Permaculture on this site. 'Vegetarian or vegan are important options if having livestock in your food system is a problem, eg in a town or religious/spiritual context.' The majority of Permaculturists, vegetarian and vegan along with meat eating ones in the UK live in towns and cities with the constraints imposed on them by legislation (tree preservation orders, prohibiting weeds, planning laws etc) with the lack of space (terrace yards with little light, flats, etc) to actually do permaculture (as opposed to annual veg growing). There are No WORKING viable models of permaculture in the UK Vegan or mixed diet alike, that are not heavily subsidized by grants or other incomes and have massive often voluntary (or funded by health ect) workforces. Even then IF (continued) (contin) IF we go along with the definition of Permanent CULTURE rather than Permanent AGRICULTURE (Mollinson/Holmgren's original definition which tries to mimic natural ecosystems) we still have the same problems. Yes, there are some people growing food (vegan and mixed diet) using some Permaculture Design methods, but they again are Heavily subsidized by outside sources. That is what the sparkly new LAND project is all about - attempting to provide a demonstration network of people ACTUALLY growing FOOD in the UK, again, it is planned to be heavily subsidized both financially and with volunteer labour, free education and advice. I AM Vegan. The issue is that the MAJORITY of 'Permaculture Practioners' in the UK veggie/vegan/meat eating alike are not producing their own food, fuel, materials and dealing with their own wastes. They are living in cities and towns and pehaps some are growing a few annual crops/shopping locally along with going to the supermarket etc. Continued... What does a Permaculture Practioner in the UK eat? Generally very much the same as the majority of the UK population veggie/vegan or meat eating alike. Same answer to the others, where do they source their food, where do they get their clothes, shoes, materials, fuel from. They buy it in. UNTIL UK permaculturists are ACTUALLY doing Permaculture viably 52 weeks of the year and PERMACULTURE can be actually DEFINED as Permaculture not just Green or eco then it can not be claimed as Permanent CULTURE even. This is not out of context: Look at any UK Permaculture COURSE that goes on to TEACH Mollison/Holmgren's original 'mimic natural ecosystems (Permanent AGRICULTURE)' and you will also so that the course information also states 'VEGAN/Veggie' meals provided or bring to share. So are those UK teachers who are promoting Veganism/Vegitarianism saying Holmgren/Mollison and Permanent Agriculture are totally wrong??? (Continued) On the back page of Permaculture Works 'Permaculture is the conscious design and maintenance of AGRICULTURALLY productive ecostyems which will have the diversity, stability and resilence of natural ecostyems. IT is the harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter and other material needs in a SUSTAINABLE way. Permaculture design is a system of assembling conceptual, material and strategic components ion a pattern which functions to benefit life in ALL its forms' Bill Mollison. David Holmgren (back page) 'The philosophy behind permaculture is one of working WITH rather than against nature, of looking at stystems in ALL their FUNCTIONS, rather than just asking one yield of them and of allowing systems to demonstrate their own evolutions' Planting a few veg seeds in a back yard is NOT Permaculture. It is growing annual foods. Incredible Edible Todmordon is a FAR better example of being self sufficient in foods than ANY UK Permie project. http://www.incredible-edible-todmorden.co.uk/ Please note: Incredible Edible Todmorden is NOT a Permaculture Town it is an example of people actually growing food with the aim of becoming self sufficient. PS the spread in the centerfold shows they have four ducks bought this May and only producing a total of one egg a day (multiple yields, many uses, energy input versus output) This is NOT a permaculture designed plot, if it IS it is a truly attrocious one that bears no resemblance to anything Mollison/Holmgren teach in Permanent Agriculture. Actually look at the design, start by looking at the energy flows (Prevailing wind/windbreaks, issues of water/waterlogging/frost pockets, order of permanence etc etc) and work your way through each part of the Permaculture design process with the information contained in both the drawing and the text. Then apply any one of the Permaculture principles and you will see the very obvious problems for something claiming to be a Permaculture DESIGN! Sadly, it is very evident from the past 'member permaculture designs' that the Permaculture Association print in it's newsletter that they are never actually looked at prior to printing. Chinese are cannibals, how do you feel about that? Hospitals in China are engaging in a thriving trade in fresh human placentas despite a government ban, state media says. "If the mother is very healthy, the baby was a boy and was her first born, the placenta price increases," an unnamed buyer was quoted as saying. http://livenews.com.au/news/world/placenta-trade-booming-in-china-despite-government-ban/2009/8/5/215150 I think eating your own finger nails is very different. This is more like eating another person's finger. For those that think the Chinese practice is fine, would you find it wrong to eat your dead child's heart, eyeballs or brain, simply because they are not needed any more? Placentas contain blood and tissue from another human being.
What do world historians have to say about the pivotal year of 1914? Are Jehovah's witnesses wrong about it? I notice Jehovah;s witnesses speak on the year 1914 quite often. So I have done some extensive research between bible prophesy, world events, and quotes of the general public . As early as 1880, Watchtower publications began drawing attention to that date. World War I commenced in that year (1914), the first time ever that the whole world went to war at the same time. While he was sitting upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately, saying: “Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?” And in answer Jesus said to them…..For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress. Matt 24:3,7 The World, a leading New York newspaper of that time, featured this headline in its August 30, 1914 magazine section: “End of All Kingdoms in 1914” “The terrific war outbreak in Europe has fulfilled an extraordinary prophecy….For a quarter of a century past, through preachers and through press, the ‘International Bible Students [Jehovah’s Witnesses], best known as ‘Millennial Dawners,’ have been proclaiming to the world that the Day of Wrath prophesied in the Bible would dawn in 1914. ‘Look out for 1914!’ has been the cry of the hundreds of traveling evangelists who, representing this strange creed, have gone up and down the country enunciating the doctrine that ‘the Kingdom of God is at hand.’” There is considerable evidence, then, that 1914 is a marked year in Bible prophesy, evidence drawn both from chronology and world events. So let’s not hear from any more from whiners who claim that it isn’t. Details here and there have been off slightly, but the Witnesses' broader view of historical trends and the direction in which the world is heading have been spot-on. Mr. Greenspan’s 2007 book is The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World. In it, one finds yet another reference to that pivotal year, 1914. Optimism prevailed before and pessimism after. It's an idea that pops up repeatedly in historical writings: Writes Greenspan: "By all contemporaneous accounts, the world prior to 1914 seemed to be moving irreversibly toward higher levels of civility and civilization; human society seemed perfectible. The nineteenth century had brought an end to the wretched slave trade. Dehumanizing violence seemed on the decline...The pace of global invention had advanced throughout the nineteenth century, bringing railroads, the telephone, the electric light, cinema, the motor car, and household conveniences too numerous to mention: medical science, improved nutrition, and the mass distribution of potable water had elevated life expectancy... The sense of the irreversibility of such progress was universal." For the most part, Jehovah's Witnesses thought that great war would escalate into the battle of Armageddon - must not Armageddon be concurrent with the "Kingdom of God at hand"? It didn't happen. [A failed end date!!] Yet, I hate to see them derided for it, because, clearly, they were on to something that everyone else missed. Within a few years, they came to appreciate that the following verses had been fulfilled in that year: So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come to pass the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ, because the accuser of our brothers has been hurled down, who accuses them day and night before our God!…..On this account be glad, you heavens and you who reside in them! Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to you, having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time.” Rev 12: 9-12 Yes, it was the establishment of the Kingdom (Now have come to pass the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ....) but it was not yet time for the end of this system of things. That would come a little later, sort of like the interval between election day and inauguration day. As far as the history of our World go's, the first world war brought a profound change to the world as a whole society of freedom and Ideals. . 1.) "Those who have an adult's recollection and an adult's understanding of the world which preceded World War I look back upon it with a great nostalgia. There was a sense of security then which has never since existed." Benjamin J. Anderson (1886-1949), Economics and the Public Welfare 2.) We read "Historic events are often said to have 'changed everything.' In the case of the Great War [1914-1918] this is, for once, true. the war really did change everything: not just borders, not just governments and the fate of nations, but the way people have seen the world and themselves ever since. It became a kind of hole in time, leaving the postwar world permanently disconnected from everything that had come before." A World Undone, by G J Meyer, (2006) 3.) Everything would get better and better. This was the world I was born in. . . . Suddenly, unexpectedly, one morning in 1914 the whole thing came to an end.—British statesman Harold Macmillan, New York “Times,” November 23, 1980 4.) Civilization entered on a cruel and perhaps terminal illness in 1914.” Frank Peters, St. Louis “Post-Dispatch January 27, 1980 5.) In 1914 the world lost a coherence which it has not managed to recapture since. . . . This has been a time of extraordinary disorder and violence, both across national frontiers and within them. The Economist,” London, August 4, 1979 6.) The whole world really blew up about World War I and we still don’t know why. . . . Utopia was in sight. There was peace and prosperity. Then everything blew up. We’ve been in a state of suspended animation ever since. Dr. Walker Percy, “American Medical News,” November 21, 1977 7.) Thoughts and pictures come to my mind, . . . thoughts from before the year 1914 when there was real peace, quiet and security on this earth—a time when we didn’t know fear. . . . Security and quiet have disappeared from the lives of men since 1914. German statesman Konrad Adenauer, 1965 8.) In 1914 the world, as it was known and accepted then, came to an end.” James Cameron (the historian, not the movie-maker) 1959 9.) Ever since 1914, everybody conscious of trends in the world has been deeply troubled by what has seemed like a fated and pre-determined march toward ever greater disaster. Many serious people have come to feel that nothing can be done to avert the plunge towards ruin. They see the human race, like the hero of a Greek tragedy, driven on by angry gods and no longer the master of fate. Bertrand Russell, New York “Times Magazine,” September 27, 1953 10.) More and more historians look back upon World War I as the great turning point of modern history, the catastrophic collapse which opened the way for others, perhaps the final one. Professor D. F. Fleming, Vanderbilt University: Here is a list of American historians. Go through all their writings and find some more 1914 quotes. And why should you confine your search to American historians? Just because I'm in America doesn't mean you are. For that matter, why confine your search to historians? Are they the only people who think? However, you may have to confine your search to writers who are old, if not deceased. The modern generation produces only essays about i-pods, stock derivatives, and CSI. Too, I don't want to hear any more carrying on about Jehovah's Witnesses being so focused on the end of this system of things, as if they're barking up the wrong tree. What does that verse in 2 Peter say? For you know this first, that in the last days there will come ridiculers wit with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires and saying: “Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep [in death], all things are continuing exactly as from creation’s beginning. (2 Pet 3:3-4)
